I met Meena during my first visit to Mumbai. She started speaking to me and we took a picture together. Back home in Germany, I wrote a letter addressed as follows: To Meena, Chowpatty Beach, Mumbai, India. The letter somehow actually reached her homeless family. It was the beginning of our close friendship, that started in 2006 and continues till today. Together with this extraordinary woman full of energy and lust for life, we created this book about her, us, her family and the circumstances she is living in.

The Book
We took Meena's life story from her diary notes and illustrated it with photographs of herself and her family. The results in a colourful, lively book about a woman who, despite all adversities, maintains her zest for love and life.

From Meena's diaries we took her life story, which we combined with my pictures inside the book. Attached you find a unique hand painted envelope by Meena. Inside you can find a collection of poetries, drawings, photo prints & letters that show moments of our friendship.

Proceeds from the sale will be used for the education of Meena’s grandchildren.
I am self publishing the book, so the profit can be used directly for the education of Aliva, Habib and Gausiya, hoping that they will be able to escape the homelessness and lead a different life..

Every envelope of the Special Edition is unique.
All through the last month, Meena has been tirelessly painting 300 hand made envelopes in which the collection of poetries, drawings, photographies and letters are enclosed.
